I have magical childhood memories of playing out in the snow, finding hills to sled down, enjoying snow cream inside while my wet clothes dried by the fireplace, and yeah, maybe some tears when I'd get hit by a snowball or when my fingers would get too cold. I don't see as much snow here in central Virginia these days, but it is still something that I look for every winter. In 2022, we took our first road trip to Quebec City in Canada to be sure that we found snow! We had such a magical experience we went back this February. Enjoy these select photos from two of the trip highlights including a hike at Parc National de la Jacques-Cartier and a night walk at Onhwa' Lumina.
Jacque Cartier National Park: After about a 40 minute drive from Quebec City, we arrived! We rented crampons for our boots and headed out on the L'Escarpement trail. This was both a longer and more difficult trail that we would usually choose, but the staff person made it sound amazing, so we did it! 9 km (5.5 miles) long and up a mountain!
Onhwa' Lumina: Just a short 20 min drive from Quebec City we visited Onhwa' Lumina in Wendake. This is a 1.2 km (0.74 mile) pathway that weaves through the woods with a series of light, sound, and video projections that celebrate the Huron-Wendat Nation and their way of life. This was an experience that will stick with us and I can't wait to go back and explore more of Wendake.
The last day of winter is coming soon with Spring Equinox on March 19! I invite you to let yourself linger in this winter a little bit longer and accept the invitation it brings us to slow down and go inward so that you are nourished, rested, and ready for the blooms in spring.
